Singer/songwriter WENDY NEW has hit the local and international
music scene with a sound all her own. Born in South Africa and a
resident of New York City for many years, she has been playing
guitar and writing songs since she was 8 years old.
She has
appeared at many popular music venues in Johannesburg and in New
York. She has collaborated with hiphop outfit AB+ Productions and
electronica duo 310 to produce songs available on her new album.
She has worked with renowned musicians such as Ian Herman and
Bakithi Khumalo, and in New York has performed regularly and to
wide acclaim with her band
(including French horn player Alex Brofsky, John Ossman and Marc
Shulman from Suzanne Vega's band). She has just released her first
album called Dissolve in the Sun and has returned to her
hometown Johannesburg where she continues to play and write and
sing and dance and so on. In Johannesburg she plays with an array
of musicians, depending on the style of the gig.
Her CD
Dissolve in the Sun, is a culmination of her myriad music and
songwriting talents. Wendy New is not to be missed for an original
sound and performance experience. For gig line-up and band details
see the gig line-up
page.
Her songs are a
unique synthesis of pop, trip-hop and folk/rock genres while lyric
images span the globe, with magnetic gritty sweet melodies.
She calls her
music new millenium soul blues.
